As the year’s coming to a close, Google has released lists of most Googled terms in 2021. While search engines were flooded by coronavirus-related inquiries last year, this year’s reports show the society is slowly coming back to the old normal.
Most of the trending searches were related to sports, predominantly cricket. Since last year’s championships were canceled, the events attracted millions of fans from India this year, making India’s matches against England and Australia the top two searches worldwide.
Entertainment-related searches included Squid Game and DMX. These searches were on global lists and several national lists of countries around the world, American being among them.
One thing remained the same: news searches were related to the pandemic. Vaccines and symptoms topped the list, with keywords changing according to COVID variations that appeared throughout the year.
The top ten list was mostly taken by national politics and social problems when it comes to the US. Senat races and government stimulus programs shared the list with Dogecoin, which found its place on the list after Elon Musk’s tweet about it.
